Micaela (FKA Martina)

Micaela was found by her foster, who routinely volunteers to foster shelter dogs at Santa Clara County Animal Shelter. She had been taken in as a stray, and when she reached out to rescue for advise, we offered to bring her under the fold and help find her home! She joined CBR on October 7, 2022. Martina was an absolute saint with her foster’s young kids, one under the age of 1 and the other was just a few years old. She was gentle, loving, and patient. What could possible be cuter than a pittie and a baby hanging out together?

While Martina was perfect with kids, she was not a fan of dogs. When going on walks, she would fixate and lunge, which raised a red flag for her foster who luckily didn’t have a dog. Martina was covered in scars and had some nicks throughout her neck and head. When we got her into a vet, the vet said her scars were consistent with dogs that were forced to fight. The vet was also concerned that she had a heart murmur, so we started searching for a cardiologist. For the rest of her time in foster care, Martina started some training to address her leash skills and worked on her confidence in her handler so she could learn she didn’t need to fight for herself anymore. Eventually, we were able to get her in with a cardiologist, her heart was in perfect condition, she was spayed and she started the hunt for her forever home.

The hunt was pleasantly short. We were expecting Martina to be in rescue longer since she wasn’t dog friendly, but that wasn’t the case! Martina found her home where she could be the focus of all of the love, care, and affection her new mama had to give.

Happy Tails!
