Sadie was saved from being euthanized after being saved from an LA shelter by a New York rescue that left her in medical boarding. The veterinarian reached out to CBR about Sadie and her kennel mate (potentially litter mate) Opal. The veterinarian said the New York rescue placed them in boarding with the vet office, but they weren’t able to contact them in months for payment. CBR attempted to reach out to the rescue regarding the dogs, and got a few responses with promises to call that never happened. CBR had someone go out to assess the dogs and were horrified after hearing the report.

The volunteer was on the verge of tears after seeing the dogs. Both bulldogs were covered in feces and desperate for human attention. The dogs had not been walked in months, they smelled as though they hadn’t been bathed in just as long, and both had bilateral cherry eye even though they were in medical boarding for months. We were very shocked at the state of which they were left in.

We managed to get Sadie, and Opal, out of there on December 10, 2022. They were temporarily fostered in Southern California where they were coined “Poop Monsters”. This was because they were constantly pooping and we had no idea why. Eventually we got the girls transported to Northern California. Sadie spent some time in foster learning how to stop jumping for attention, being potty trained, being cared for, bathed, and loved.

Her health was always a concern, unfortunately. She had vaginitis, leaky stools, and was even rushed to the ER at one point for a severely swollen vagina that ended up being a severe infection. Once her infections were under control we were able to get her in to have her spay, shorten her palette so she can breath better, and correct her cherry eyes. Unfortunately, one of the cherry eyes returned soon after, but CBR will always take care of the dogs who develop health ailments while still being fostered.

Her fostered learned that Sadie’s food sensitives were the cause for her leaky stools. While in foster she was always very energetic, playful, and loved messing with her foster bulldog brother. She found her forever home through Facebook and is living her best life with a family who is dedicated to her and the care she needs.
