Being brave isn’t the absence of fear. Being brave is having that fear but finding a way through it.
— Bear Grylls

Rylie was adopted from Stockton animal shelter, but was soon returned for reasons we will never understand. She was young in the shelter, and extremely afraid of everything and everyone. We managed to get her out on November 13, 2022, and that’s when the work began.

We could see while in foster that Rylie was a loving, fun, puppy at heart, but her fear of everyone, especially men stopped her. She would bark and retreat incessantly with new people. Guests and people in the home had to be very diligent about avoiding eye contact, not approaching her, and leaving her alone so she could get comfortable in her own time. Eventually, she got better, especially when she was around other dogs (they gave her the confidence she was lacking in herself).

With time, CBR decided it was best to enroll her in a Board & Train with Wolf Mother K9 to fast tracked the progress she was already making. During her training with Wolf Mother K9, they took her EVERYWHERE to expose her to everything and worked with her endlessly to get over her fear whether it was new people entering the home, people passing the window in the home she was in, seeing strangers on walks, etc. To end her time with them, they also went on a trip to further expose her to different climates, people, environments, and so much more. The level of thoughtfulness and dedication the training program provided, was shown when she came back to her foster home and was an entirely different dog.

While she still had some fear, her foster knew she was a very different wrong. This was all great timing because that is when her new family found her. They were dedicated and familiar with fearful dogs. They were willing to put in the work and continue to meet with trainer. Rylie was adopted May 17, 2023, and we cannot wait to watch her evolve and get better with her new family.

Happy Tails!
