Gemma joined CBR from the Oakdale Animal Shelter on December 16, 2023. Poor Gemma was skinny when she arrived and based on her bald spots and callused skin, it seemed she had lived on concrete all her life. Gemma was a super easy girl regardless of the neglect it seemed she endured.

She absolutely loved her foster mom once she got to know her and got along great with her foster’s resident dog from the very beginning. Unfortunately, Gemma did not trust new people easily, especially not men. She was very timid and hesitant with new people, but with some training and dedication from her foster, she learned to trust people easily. Sometimes, when left alone, Gemma would have some anxiety and chew things up that smelled a lot like her foster mom. With some CBD, tough chews, and training , her foster was able to help Gemma work through this.

Thanks to coconut oil and some BullyCrew CBD balm, Gemma’s calluses healed, her fur grew back, and you would never know now of the neglect she went through before joining rescue. She ate a healthy diet of Just Food For Dogs and also started filling in some of her lovely curves. Once she was spayed, the hunt to find her forever family started. Gemma was dog friendly, no resource guarding of any kind, great with kids, but was a bit too “I want to eat you” when it came to cats.

On April 6, 2023, Gemma found her family. After some stressful travel plans didn’t fall through, her family was dedicated enough to Gemma through photos alone, to make a 6 hour drive up and meet her to take her home that same day. It was love at first sight and now Gemma has a human little brother to love on and play with!

Happy Tails!
