Dogs have a way of finding the people who need them and filling an emptiness we didn’t ever know we had
— Thom Jones

Champ came to us from an owner surrender after being found on FaceBook searching for a new home, for free, and intact. We were very afraid of him ending up in the wrong hands, so we reached out and try to help bring him into rescue. It took sometime for the family to trust us, while they weren’t sure what to do, they did want to do what was best for Champ.

They needed to rehome because he had gotten into a fight with their resident husky while trying to “protect” the two resident chihuahuas from the husky. After meeting with the family surrendering him at a park, it turns out Champ was an English Bulldog from Mexico and when he wanted to play with the Husky, the Husky didn’t understand his play style and vice versa. Champ was picked up by one of our partner trainers, Aly, with Aly Cali K9 where he started a 2 week board and train so we could assess him before putting him in a foster home with another husky.

Aly fell in love with him very quickly, and we also realized that Champ wasn’t the biggest fan of other dogs. She offered to foster him until his forever home was found, and good thing too since Champ showed he was reactive to big dogs now and tolerant but not a fan of small dogs. Champ was not as food motivated as others, so he really made Aly work for his obedience but with time his leash skills, reactivity, and tendency to mark inside the house improved drastically. He was already crate trained which was great to see!

Once he was neutered and up to date on his shots, he was ready to find his forever home. His new paw-rents had been inquiring about adopting an English Bulldog through CBR for sometime, but their applications were always just a smidge too late. Champ had met with one other family and had 20+ applications before it was his new families turn, and it turned out to be the perfect fit. Champ’s new family lost an English Bulldog a few months before they found Champ, and apparently Champ looks very similar to the fur baby they lost. We are so thankful to be a part of the healing of not just Champ but his new family also.

Happy Tails!
